Synopsis

The Red Sleeve stars Lee Se-young as Seong Deuk-im and Lee Jun-ho as Yi San. The K-drama is set in the Joseon Dynasty and revolves around Crown Prince Yi San and his court maid, Seong Deuk-im. This K-drama, based on the novels with the same name by author Kim Mi-Kang, is a story about Crown Prince Yi San who later becomes Kim Jeongjo, and his desire to have Seong Deuk-im become his royal concubine. It is a K-drama that has stolen my heart because of the love story, the laughs, and its historical contents.

As with any historical K-drama, the number one question is probably if the K-drama is based on true people from history.

I personally didn't look into the story of this K-drama before I watched it. I just automatically knew that I needed to watch it because actress Lee Se-young was cast as the lead character. The funny thing is, as I was watching this K-drama, it was hard for me to shake her character from the K-drama Korean Odyssey , in which she played a zombie named Bu-jah.

As I was watching the first episode of The Red Sleeve, the scenes played out a very familiar story that I know and many of us Koreans know: the story of Crown Prince Sado. He is a Crown Prince well known for his death, which I will write about in a future post.

Over the week, I will be dissecting The Red Sleeve and sharing the life stories of the true characters of this brilliant K-drama.

Who are you looking forward to learning about?
